Exploits in Tokyo...

Tokyo.. capital of Japan, high-tech metropolis, bursting with people and now another destination my adventures have taken me! This post is probably very very overdue considering I first visited Tokyo with my mum over a year ago now! Since then I've taken a spur of the moment weekend trip in June when some university friends were visiting and just last month I went with a friend to Tokyo Disney Resort! So here's a brief overview of my exploits in Tokyo!!

Tokyo Skytree

The Skytree is one of Tokyo's top attractions, so on my first trip to Tokyo this was a must see for me. If you haven't heard of the Skytree (I'm shocked if you haven't...), the Skytree is the tallest tower in the world and tallest structure in Japan. From the tippity top of the tower are spectacular views of Tokyo and maybe beyond. I however visited with my height fearing mum so going to the top wasn't an option for us lol. We did get to visit the Suica Aquarium though which is inside the Skytree complex, and I was able to see penguins!! Even though we didn't go to the top even seeing the Skytree up close was amazing, and we were able to take in it's vast height/ colossal size from below!

Asakusa

On my second trip I visited a more traditional spot with some uni friends. Asakusa is famous for its old school market shops and the Sensoji temple. I always talk about my love of Japan so juxtaposition of tradition and modernity and Asakusa is another perfect example of this. Whilst overall Asakusa is a more "downtown" area it is still pretty modern and the industrial buildings mixed with the Sensoji Temple and Asakusa markets creates that juxtaposition I mentioned above!

 Akihabara

Akihabara was a pretty cool place to visit! I visited here on my first trip with my mum although I'm not so sure it interested her as much as me! Akihabara is known as "Electric City" where all things video games, anime and basically "electric" can be found. Whilst I'm not really into all those things for me it was still a cool place to see as there's nothing quite like it elsewhere (or at least in England)! Plus for me it really encompassed the Japanese culture and importance of anime/technology, something I find quite fascinating!

Tokyo Disney

My most recent Tokyo trip was to the land where "dreams come true" (cringe lol) Tokyo Disney resort. I was lucky enough to visit Disneyland and the Tokyo exclusive Disney sea and as it was October the parks were also in Halloween mode making it even more enjoyable! On the first day we visited Disney sea. Thanks to the cloudy weather the park was not too busy and thus we were able to enjoy Many rides and shows including toy story mania, Villains Halloween show, tower of terror,  etc. Day 2 was at Disneyland, and again it wasn't too busy. Not only did we manage to fit in all the big rides we were also able to catch the closing fireworks show and projection shows by the castle before catching our night bus to Kansai!

So whilst I didn't cover everything I did on my trips to Tokyo this pretty much sums it up! Each trip was an amazing experience and though I do still prefer Osaka (it holds a special place in my heart being the first major city I went to in Japan) every time I leave Tokyo I'm left wanting to go back and do more!! So here's hoping to some future exploits in Tokyo!
